Inter Anjuman debate competition
Anjuman-I-Islam's A. A. Khatkhatay English Secondary School recently hosted Inter-Anjuman Debate Competition on 7th December, 2024, bringing together talented students from various Anjuman schools
which included
7 Urdu medium schools,
5 English medium schools and
7 Junior colleges.
The event, which aimed to foster critical thinking, effective communication and teamwork, saw around 114 participants engage in healthy debates on pressing topics like Should Vocational education be offered as an alternative to traditional education for Urdu Medium and English medium schools and Genetic Engineering - a boon or a bane for Junior Colleges respectively
The competition consisted of different rounds, with teams arguing for and against their respective topics. The debates were judged by a panel of esteemed experts, who evaluated the teams' arguments, presentation skills and ability to respond to counterarguments.
The judges in Urdu Medium Schools group were Mrs.Nahida Somani (Ex Principal,Iqra Islamic School) and Mr.Balwa Mohammed Irfan (Teacher at Millat High School). Likewise for English medium schools group the judges were Mrs.Chandrakala Mishra (Principal, Diamond Jubilee High School for Girls) and Mr. Sameer Shaikh (Corporate Trainer and Educational Consultant) and for Junior Colleges group were Mr.Shubhankar (Director of Operations, Unifly Collective) and Mr.Satish Shrisunder (Soft Skill trainer and Educational and Career Counselor) respectively.
Anjuman-I-Islam's A. A. Khatkhatay English Secondary School emerged victorious, in the English medium school group impressing the judges with their well-researched arguments, confident delivery and effective rebuttals.
In the Urdu medium school group, the winner was Anjuman-I-Islam's Dr. MIJ Girls High School & Junior College, Bandra and similarly Anjuman-I-Islam's Junior College of Science and Commerce, CST were the winners in the Junior College group. The winning teams were awarded a trophy and individual team members received certificates. Along with this, the Best Debator in Urdu Medium Schools group was Ms l. Arshiya Qureshi (A.I's Dr. MIJ Girls High School, Kurla), in English Medium Schools group was Ms.Nidah Nathani (A.I's Begum Sharifa Kalsekar Girls' English High School, Bellasis Road) and Junior College group was Ms.Afifa AwaisNusrat (A.I's Allana Junior College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Kurla).
The event not only provided a platform for students to showcase their debating skills but also encouraged them to think critically, challenge their assumptions and develop well-informed opinions. All in all, it was the combined efforts of the Principal of the host school, Mrs.Zulekha Siddiqui and her team that the competition turned out to be a great success.
